World Cup 2014: Argentina Vs Belgium Predictions

World Cup 2014: Argentina Vs Belgium Predictions

Argentina take on Belgium in the quarter finals to secure a position in the semi-finals. Who will go forward and who will pack their bags and go home? Find out here

Argentina take on Belgium as both teams fight to secure a place in the FIFA World Cup 2014 semi-finals. It has been a tough journey for both countries so far that they're both hungry for a win.

Both teams have weaknesses for the other to exploit. Belgium are especially vulnerable down their left flank, where Hazard often neglects his defensive duties and Jan Vertonghen is playing out of position at left-back. Argentina may look to move Ezequiel Lavezzi wider onto that side and try to ge the thus far below-par Pablo Zabaleta overlapping.

According to early predictions, this may be a match filled with goals. However, Argentina is most likely to walk away with a 3-2 win. History is also in favor of an Argentinean win. Argentina have won three of their four encounters with Belgium, scoring 10 goals and conceding four. In the World Cup, they have one win each: Belgium were victors in the group stages of the 1982 edition (1-0) while Argentina won 2-0 in the semi-finals four years later thanks to a Diego Maradona brace. That was their last encounter.

It's the third time in a row that Argentina have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup. However, the Albiceleste have never gone further than the quarter finals since they reached the final in 1990. Belgium have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup for only the second time in their history after 1986. They eventually finished fourth.

Belgium and Argentina have had the most shots in this World Cup (83 and 80 respectively). Marc Wilmots' men have also had the most attempts on target (32). Argentina and Belgium are two of four teams to have won all their games at the 2014 World Cup (extra-time included), with Colombia and the Netherlands. All four of Argentina and Belgium's wins have been by a one goal difference.

Who do you think will go into the semi-finals?
